Farewell to a Friend

Iris keychainYesterday, I learned of the loss of one of our friends and Squidoo lensmaster family members. My very good friend, Heather Burns, sent me an email informing me of our friends passing.

I met Sherry Holder Hunt on Twitter. I received the message that she was following me on May 23, 2009. Knowing she was part of the family of Squids we became friends.

I remember sending her an invitation to join RocketMoms, a Squidoo club, for session three. She replied that she was very interested and had already received a couple of invitations from others. It is not hard to see why she would be invited more than once.

Sherry always showed a smile to the world and did what she could to help her friends and anyone else who asked or needed it.

We did not have to talk very often and the last private or direct message I received from her on Twitter was on January 21 when she informed me she had added me to her top friends list. She certainly knew how to make you feel good.

Currently, Sherry's top lens is all about her. If you never got the chance to "meet" her, here is where you will find her personality. The lens is entitled Sherry Holder Hunt, artist. Her art can be found in all corners of the internet. All you have to do is put her name in Google and you will see the wide range of beautiful artistry she has created.

I would like to paraphrase something a very close friend of mine once asked. Can real friendships be found in 140 characters or less? Yes, I believe they can. I have found many close friends that way.

I would like to send my condolences to Sherry’s family and friends. She will be missed by many who basked in her friendship and wit.

  1. Holley, what a shock to hear about Sherry. I have long admired her art, especially her fractals, which can be found on Imagekind. As a matter of fact, we were fans of each other's work there. I never met Sherry, only really knew her through her art, yet I feel such a sense of loss. Thank you for your tribute to her life.

  4. Holley, I am so grateful that someone who knew Sherry within our Community has taken the time to pen such a thoughful tribute.

I did not know Sherry that well, although I am a member of her Squidoo fanclub and we followed each other on Twitter. I see that Sherry was also a RocketMom.

It seems that Sherry touched many people's lives, not only with her beautiful art but also the way she embraced the sense of Community within Squidoo and the related networks.

The loss of anyone is always awful but to see someone snatched away so suddenly from her husband, young son, parents and family makes the whole situation even more sad. They are in my thoughts.

    She will indeed be missed.

  7. I met Sherry some time ago on Squidoo and always had sweet interactions with her. The comments on her facebook fan page all mention what a kind, happy person she was and that definitely came through in the short comments we traded. She was one of those people it was always so nice to hear from. Her face and even her name always made me smile when I saw her around Squidoo. It's so special that her memory will live on in her lenses and in her art. She will be missed.

  16. I was so sad to hear of Sherry's sudden passing. I met her on Zazzle a little over a year ago, and though we never did get to know each other well, I do remember being amazed by her talent and how gracious she was in accepting a compliment. I favorited her gallery and would stop by occassionally just to get some eye candy. I know she will live on through the beauty of her work, in sharing the gifts God gave her and in the hearts of everyone who knew her. Gods peace be with her family at this sad time. ~ CES

What a wonderful tribute. I hadn't known Sherry well, but our paths crossed in RocketMoms and Squidoo. I'm shocked at hearing about her sudden death. I can't imagine how her family feels but hopefully, they have some comfort in all the loving tributes and messages on this blog, Sherry's Fan Page, and lenses ... Thank you for writing the tribute for this wonderful woman.
    Best,

  30. While neither Bonnie nor I had the pleasure and honour of "meeting" Sherry through our Squidoo activities, it is with great sadness that we have learned of this talented lady's passing.

Her wonderful artwork and memory will endure her physical life as her spirit lives on.

    Our condolences to her family.

    A beautiful tribute, Holley.

  31. Gaging by the tremendous turnout here in honor of Sherry, I guess I wasn't all that special. That's how I felt when she would RT me or comment on my FaceBook wall.

No, I wasn't all that special, because Sherry treated EVERYONE with the grace and genuine warmth that was part of who she was (and will continue to be).

We were ALL special to this wonderful person. She will be missed greatly.
