A Place For Everything

White Bear with Blue Sweater

Eliminate Chaos The 10 Step Process to Organize Your Home & Life reminds me of the Home and Garden channel, HGTV -- in a more personal way. This lens gives you step-by-step instructions for cleaning out your clutter and making your space more functional. Katiyana shows before-and-after videos of her sewing room. You get to hear her voice telling you about her clutter problem and what she's done to get organzed. She'll also tell you about the book that motivated her to take control. Fun and motivational read for the new year!

Lensmaster Lakeerieartists Interview

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What makes you passionate about Squidoo.com?

Lakeerieartists: I love that I can write about what interests me and be part of a community while earning money. It is amazing that Squidoo is free to use and that by my contribution to the community, I am helping support it financially as well. When I earn money, so does Squidoo, which in turn supports me. Well planned. I also love that I can build it at my own pace, and create exponential growth through a labor of love. And in turn, support my other labor of love, Lake Erie Artists Gallery--promoting Cleveland, Ohio and its artists.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: Is Squidoo perfect already or what could make it better?

Lakeerieartists: Nothing is ever perfect in life or in business, and Squidoo isn't either. But it is growing and developing, and the leaders and staff are very responsive to suggestions and imput. As long as that is true, then we can make it better together. Perfection is not the goal we should be striving for. We should work to make it productive, informative, and profitable for everyone.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What inspires you to make a new lens?

Lakeerieartists: I am inspired by a lot of things. I like to create lenses in groups on a topic, so usually one lens begets another. But I am also inspired by my life and daily occurrences as well by other lensmasters.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: How many lenses do you have?

142 and 15 more WIP [151 published as of this post]

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What is your most popular lens?

Lakeerieartists: My most popular lens right now is Confessions of a Giant Squid which I have to admit is also one of my own favorites. It tells about how I got started in Squidoo and the resources I used to become a Giant.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What one sentence or one word describes your success?

Lakeerieartists: By writing more and more lenses and listening to the more successful and experienced lensmasters around me, I am becoming successful and experienced myself.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What should a newbie do first?

Lakeerieartists: That is a great question but doesn't have one answer. It depends on how that person learns and how well they know the internet. But I would suggest writing a lens. Walk through the steps and put one together. Then try to see what you like and dislike about it. Ask questions and look for answers on SquidU and in other lenses. Then write more lenses. Because they can always be updated and revised, it is fine to make mistakes.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: Which of your lenses do you want to make sure the whole world knows about?

Lakeerieartists: Ooooh, you ask great questions. This is a tough choice but I am going to choose one of my newer lenses The Brothers Grimm. This is the lead in to a series of fairytale lenses that I am working on.

We Are Family

Ode to the Giving Tree

This lens solidifies the notion that Squidoo is a family. Not counting Seth and staff, I can see ChefKeem fitting very nicely into the Squidoo Patriarch slot -- not because of his age, though. Not at all. It's because patriarchs lead, support, and encourage their families. Check out Do You Have The Courage To Ask For Help?, and see where it takes you.

Lensmaster Cappuccino136 Interview

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What makes you passionate about Squidoo.com?

Cappuccino136: You have so much flexibility to create with all the different modules. You start with an idea and you can build something wonderful, funny, informative, personal, or helpful. The community at SquidU is supportive and helpful. It feels kind of like a family.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: Is Squidoo perfect already or what could make it better?

Cappuccino136: Of course nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement. Things are always developing at Squidoo and keep getting better. I really like the new modules that came out about a month ago, especially the "text with big picture".

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What inspires you to make a new lens?

Cappuccino136: It usually starts with an idea or a topic that is very interesting to me . A favorite book, a hobby, or a question that I'm curious about.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: How many lenses do you have?

Cappuccino136: I have 14 published lenses and two that are in development.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What is your most popular lens?

Cappuccino136: "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" I love the book and apparently many others do, too. Judith Viorst's story and the character of Alexander is so funny. We have to laugh at ourselves. It helps keep things in perspective.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What one sentence or one word describes your success?

Cappuccino136: Keep learning every day.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What should a newbie do first?

Cappuccino136: There are three important things. Look at some of the top rated lenses for some good examples and to get some ideas. Join SquidU and participate in the forum. Read tutorial lenses, starting with this one.

Squidoo Lens Reviews: Which of your lenses do you want to make sure the whole world knows about?

Cappuccino136: This Broadway show lens gets very little traffic, but it's a wonderful show and I am proud of the lens. "Grey Gardens"

Cameras For Kids

Camera

We went out to view the beautiful Christmas lights on display last night at the homes in our area. My grandson had a ball. He's eight, and I discovered that he has a great eye using a camera! The pix we made aren't for display as they do have their faults; however, they are good enough for me to tell that a camera for the little guy for Christmas will be a great way for him to find out if it's a passion and a talent he wants to develop. So, in an hour or so, we'll be going to pick one up to ensure that we have one in hand on Christmas morning. If the idea of a camera for the little sweeties in your life is appealing to you, Mulberry recommends Cameras for Kids.

Make a Gingerbread House

Lensmaster Mosaic Interview

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What makes you passionate about Squidoo.com?

Mosaic: It's just so easy to use. I love that I can make a lens as simple or as long as I want and I know it'll be easy to do. It literally only took me minutes to start building. Also, the community is awesome. The forums are busy all the time and typically always filled with helpful people. The community is great. Also, I think the staff (and all the volunteer Squid Citizens and such) are very accessible. It's great!

Squidoo Lens Reviews: Is Squidoo perfect already or what could make it better

Mosaic: Gosh, I have some minor wishes when it comes to doing HTML. First, I'm not a fan of the TOC module, and I often want to do internal navigation links to other parts of my lens. Right now, I have put in a dummy TOC, copy the correct link location and modify it, then put the link where I want it to go. I would like to have an easier way to grab the anchor link to each module. Also, tables! I currently use fluff's script (it's fluff's right?) [Yes] for tables but if we could code tables ourselves, I would use them more often. I know tables are a no-no in CSS, I know, I know. But still!

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What inspires you to make a new lens?

Mosaic: I get inspiration from lots of places. Mostly, though, from randomly surfing the web, watching TV, and chatting with my friends. Sometimes, making a lens is like making a mental note to myself. Oh yeah, I was thinking about that the other day....

Squidoo Lens Reviews: How many lenses do you have?

Mosaic: I currently have mid 50s I think. I have a bunch of WIPs that I'll eventually get to....

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What is your most popular lens?

Mosaic: My Plant Tycoon Strategies lens is my post popular. Wow. It constantly gets traffic and a bajillion clickouts. Part of the success comes from backlinks. I posted a link to this lens on many video game forums so a good chunk of my traffic comes from referrals. And with all those backlinks, Google likes it a lot. It also helps that lots of people love this game. Not only that, lots of people who are playing the game are lazy and are looking for shortcuts.... :P

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What one sentence or one word describes your success?

Mosaic: Found stuff that works by trying lots of stuff. Keep trying!

Squidoo Lens Reviews: What should a newbie do first?

Mosaic: Make a lens. On anything. Then make another lens on something else. Then make another lens on something else. Try lots of different topics and different layouts and different ways of saying things. Then go back and update, tweak, change your old lenses. Then make another lens on something else. Then make a lens related to a lens you've already made. You won't know what works for you until you try!

Squidoo Lens Reviews: Which of your lenses do you want to make sure the whole world knows about?

Mosaic: My favorite lens is my RubikCubism lens. I just think the topic is great fun and really inspiring. I've featured some of my own small artworks on this lens. During the life of this lens, I've gotten the original RubikCubist to link to my lens! That was a great honor. Also, I've met a new artist who actually does very large RubikCubism commissioned pieces! This lens really gave me a lot of encouragement to make strange, niche-y lenses on Squidoo. Lots of surprises!

In Memory Of Ebay-Grandma

Pamela Waugh, highly respected Lensmaster ebay-grandma, passed away in the night of December 10, 2008. The Squid community is a somber place upon hearing this news.

In her memory, I am giving some link love to every lens she created. My condolences to her family and friends.

In her own words -- from her blog, Create Your Way To Sanity:

I believe in using creative ways to become more Green. Sustainability should be a priority for all and it is imperative that we educate our younger generations to the importance of reducing what we use, reuse till it can't be used, and then recycle. The difficult part is re-educating the masses to only use what they need.

Ebay-grandma was reviewed at Squidoo Lens Reviews here on October 8, 2008 in celebration of her becoming a Giant Squid. She documented her thoughts on becoming a Giant Squid here. The Giant Squid Community Showcase did a tribute here where folks are leaving messages of condolence. Condolence messages are also being left here at SquidU. Our Editor in Chief, Megan Casey, has honored her here on the Squidoo Lens of the Day blog.

Meth Can Mess Up Your Life

This lens proves to me that the adage "Knowledge is prevention" is true. Clouda9 takes you on the journey of meth addiction -- what it does to users, their famlies, their communities, and the world. The Empire State Building

Empire State Building from Madison Avenue

The Empire State Building, from EmpireMame, gives you information about this famous landmark that you may not have known. I got chills to learn that upon Fay Wray's death (famous for King Kong), the building went into complete darkness for 15 minutes. The accompanying picture made it even more intense.

Mankind Died by Mayflowerblood

"Stuka" Dive-Bombers of the Luftwaffe in Action

Mayflowerblood has been around since July 30th of this year. Since then, he has impressed me with his passion for Squidoo and for his willingness to grow. If you've watched him from that time, you know his work keeps getting better and better. Today, I would like for you to visit this lens: Mankind Died by Mayflowerblood. Listen to and watch his music video, Mankind Died (from his band, Mayflowerblood). The images in the video and on the page are real -- and (warning) may be hard for some folks to look at. It's a very powerful message.

Bitstrips -- Comics Made Easy

Peanuts: Go for It

Making it sound every bit as addictive as Squidoo, Fortunalee tells you about Bitstrips -- Comics Made Easy. For folks with a long unrealized dream of creating a comic strip of their own, this lens just may talk them into giving it a whirl.
