See that image? It reads, "Effort and courage are not enough without purpose and direction."
In aspiring to be a Giant Squid, those who know me would probably agree that I would not be one now had it not been for the "purpose and direction" of a team.
One of the team leaders for our last Giant Squid Challenge played the definitive role in my joining up with Joan's Jolly Judicious Jetsetters. She asked me why I had declined Joan's invitation to be in Joan's group. "It's all in fun, and you know that," she said to me.
Well, when I had declined, it was because I had thought I had to "commit" to move from my 27 lenses to at least 50. As time went on during recruitment, though, I had learned that it would be possible to sign up with Joan's team without actually committing to become a Giant Squid — just to help add to the team's lens count and try to win for being the team with the most lenses built.
After the cracking of the whip (yes, it was you a_willow, and thank you ;) to get me to change my mind, I signed on with Joan (and thank you, Joan :).
During the course of the challenge, it did become an actual challenge. And here I am, a Giant Squid —
and a team leader for one of the teams!
So, I say to you: Join a team, even if you have ten lenses, or even just one. Help your team build their lens count. With purpose and direction, you, too, may be a Giant "before your time."
Join up with us, won't you? Do hurry, though! The challenge starts this coming Saturday, August first!
