Making Sense of Monotropism

Autumn Leaves card

Lensmaster KarenTBTEN gives us a view of her inner world in Making Sense of Monotropism.

No horror stories are related, but it reminds me that there is so much we fail to see when observing people. We wonder why normal-looking children fail in school. We assume willfulness or laziness. Yet, more and more, we are finding that there is no "normal."

Inside the body, are stories to tell, but some parents cause more harm than good by refusing to see their child as anything but healthy and whole. Willful and lazy, yes, but no gene mutations or missing chromosomes. Children can't articulate, and so they grow up up having learned that it's their own fault.

Some children grow up and can explain their reality. Lenses like Karen's help us see within.

  4. Mimi, thanks! I have wondered who tweeted this lens etc. It's very interesting finding this today, and seeing the line about missing chromosomes and mutation, because I had just been writing, at Crabbysbeach, about the hurdles one has to go through to get genetic testing...
