Paperweights

A Collection of Clichy Millefiori Weights -- Buy at AllPosters.com

The paperweight we had in our living room when I was growing up was a source of beauty and comfort for me. When you are little and have no control over the chaos in your life, little things like this hold a secret. They tell you that there can be beauty and order in the world. We moved a lot; I don't know where it is now, but I like to think that it's a source of comfort and beauty for some other little kid. So, I was naturally curious when I saw the link to Paperweights. The headline picture looks very much like the one I remember from childhood. It's a millefiori -- meaning "a thousand flowers." Stazjia, another brand new Giant Squid, writes about the history of paperweights, how they are made, and shows some beautiful pictures of various kinds of paperweights -- along with some videos of some of the steps in making these glass beauties, and some very nice book selections. All in all, an informative and beautiful lens.
